The ABC of Tapeworm Infection
Almost every one among us has at least some bit of idea regarding the
tapeworm and its activities. In fact, many among us, at some point of
time, have to suffer from this problem of tapeworm infection. The
luckier ones get rid of this menace quite easily. Tapeworm infection
does not pose any serious threat for them.

But not all among us are that lucky all the time. In some instances,
the tapeworm infection may also lead to death. Just as some of the other
articles dealing with tapeworm here show, there may also be instances
where death occurs from tapeworm infection. If untreated and not taken
care of for quite a long time, the tapeworm may affect orgasm as vital
as the brain. This may take one towards even death. In fact, the reality
is that diagnosis of the tapeworm’s presence requires us to be at least
a little acquainted with the tapeworm symptom. Unless we have a little
knowledge about the tapeworm symptom, it will be virtually impossible
for us to diagnose it in a nascent stage. By the time we get to
understand that there has been a tapeworm infection, already a good bit
of time will have passed. Therefore, here we will like to elaborate a
little on the different aspects associated with the tapeworm infection.
Tapeworm Infection Symptoms
First of all, it is good to learn about the common symptoms of the
tapeworm infection. If you find suddenly that someone at your place is
suffering from symptoms like fatigue, diarrhoea, abnormal hunger,
nausea, unnatural pain and a feeling of discomfort in the abdominal
area, do not deal with it lightly. Get the person immediately checked
up. There is every possibility that the person is infected with
tapeworm.
Procedure for Diagnosis of Tapeworm Infection
Once you feel that those symptoms are present in some one, you should
see a doctor without wasting much time. The doctor will possibly perform
these two following kinds of tests for the purpose:
a. Stool Examination – Microscopic study of stool shows traces of
tapeworm.
b. Blood Examination – In case a person has caught tapeworm
infection, it shows considerable changes in the blood composition. For
instance, the eosinophil level in blood increases. There is deficiency
of the vitamin B12 and some red blood cells become paler and larger.
How to Prevent Tapeworm Infection?
One of the easiest and most effective ways of preventing tapeworm
infection is washing your hand properly before starting to cook
something. It is also important to see that you never eat undercooked
food, especially undercooked beef or pork. It is wise not to have things
like salads, fruit salads, sushi, etc. in places where there is a known
outbreak of the tapeworm infection.

The Treatment Options for Tapeworm Infection
Usually in case of tapeworm infection, doctors prescribe the two
following types of medications:
a. Antihelminthics – These drugs help in eliminating all sorts of the
tapeworm infections including the praziquintel and the niclosamide.
These drugs are highly effective and the rate of these drugs working
successfully in tapeworm infection is as high as ninety five percent.
Once a person starts taking these medicines, the tapeworm segments start
coming out of the body along with the faeces.
b. Laxative – Often the Antihelminthics are followed by some kind of
laxatives. These help in purgation of the traces of tapeworm that were
treated by the antihelminthics and lay dead and inactive in your
intestine.
It should also be taken into note that in case there is proper and
effective treatment of the tapeworm infection in time, there is a very
good record of the prognosis of the infection from tapeworm. In case
there is not even the slightest trace of tapeworm in stool of the
infected person after 4 months from start of treatment, it is declared
that the person is fully cured. |
